My hubby and I have switched to decaf, but I still adore coffee. I call it "the elixer of life." I've been exploring mixed media and realizing the endless possibilities.

Blue Lagoon Window
36 x 27
acrylic on recovered/recycled window

I'm in love with color. I simply cannot paint with realistic colors all the time - it bores me. It's all about the color - that's what really gets my juices flowing. I painted this while listening to Jimmy Buffet. I figured it would help get me through the winter!

"In the depths of winter, I finally learned that within me lay an invincible summer."
~Albert Camus

I had an interesting experience last night. I was asked to come "pray through" a home in order to help identify what might be causing some spooky things going on in the house. It turned out that it was masks and clay statues from Africa. Even the bag they were packaged in had to go. So, if you are an art lover like me, be careful what you buy under the umbrella of "art." It can sometimes be unclean. A wonderful book to read on the subject is "Protecting Your Home From Spiritual Darkness" by Chuck Pierce.

"Do not give the devil a foothold."

From The Heart
mixed media on wood
10 x 12 inches
SOLD, but available as an 11 x 14 print
This was the first piece of art I made in the new year. It takes me awhile to get pictures taken. I've been playing with collage techniques and having fun with it. I heard this quote when I was watching the Kennedy Center honors last year. Barbra Streisand was being honored and they attributed this quote to her. But after looking it up on Goggle (what did we do before Google?), I found that the quote is actually from Samuel Taylor Coleridge, one of the romantic poets from the Lake district of England, and writer of Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Kahn. This is an example of how things sometimes get twisted in Hollywood.

The Beach Calls
5 x 12 inches
acrylic on wood
SOLD

I live in one of the beach capitals of the USA, Myrtle Beach. Every summer, I realize afresh that the real reason that folks come here is to enjoy the beach and swim in the ocean. We have a veritable plethora of tacky forms of shopping and entertainment. It isn't called the "Redneck Riviera" for nothing. Yet, the Beach is what calls them.....

The purpose of life is a life of purpose.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Peace On Earth 2
acrylic on wood
7 x 12 inches
SOLD
I've been playing with different techniques and having fun with it. Doves and other birds seem to show up in many of my paintings. I sometimes get requests for paintings with ravens. I just don't think it would be fair to myself to paint what others want instead of expressing who I am. But I have always loved this poem, and it mentions a raven:

This is my only New Year's resolution this year; it was born from my art journal:

The New Year always makes me want to wear white. Must be something about a fresh start. This year I want to focus on putting even more of myself and all the love that I feel into my art. We've taken down all the Christmas decorations already. The house always looks so empty after that. My mom has been here visiting for a week, so it has been a week of food and fun! Hope you had a wonderful one, too!

What Is Good
12 x 7 inches
mixed media on wood
SOLD
available as an 11 x 14 print

My daughter's friend, Maddi, asked to use my barn/studio and my help to paint her hub cabs blue. Of course I had to say yes, because I encourage anyone who wants to express themself. They look wild - I like them!
