Fiery, but Laughing Jesus
11 x 20 inches
acrylic on wood
sealed and ready to hang

I often get requests for paintings of Jesus laughing. It has taken me awhile to produce something that I thought was worthy of Him. There is a glare on this painting, because I forgot to photograph it before putting on the clear gloss.

Here is an interesting quote about Andrew Wyeth, a very famous, successful artist from Chadd's Ford, Pennsylvania:
"Making a fortune allowed Wyeth to play a familiar American role--the free-thinking individualist who at the same time represented the vox populi. As bohemianism itself became institutionalized, Wyeth encapsulated the artistic conservative's paradoxical idea of cultural disobedience through traditional behavior."
~Michael Kimmelmann, art critic

This quote reminds me that not all artists cut off their ear, or are drunks or drug addicts. While those do exist (I know of a few) most of us are just regular people. As a matter of fact, latey, I've been noticing that many of my favorite artists are dedicated Christians that give all the glory to God. That is the direction to which I strive.

On The Lookout

I've learned so much about the herd instinct in horses lately. They are always on the lookout for predators. I have a new respect for them.

I received a cream and sugar set for Christmas that looks like this, whimsical and fun. I decided to change cream and sugar to milk and honey, as a reminder of all our blessings.

So the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great terror and with miraculous signs and wonders. 9 He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey; ~Deuteronomy 26:8-9

Psychedelic Butterfly in Orange
16 x 11 inches
acrylic on wood
sealed and ready to hang
SOLD

I love painting butterflies. They are such a wonderful metaphor for change. We all need change in order to grow. I must confess, my first instinct when faced with change is to dig in my heels and refuse. But once I surrender to it, I'm always glad I did.

Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.

Midnight Magic

Last night, the full moon was so incredible, my neighbor called me out of my barn to see it. Then, I saw it again this morning on the other side of the sky. Sometimes it is amazing to think about this great expanding universe in which we live.

May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night and a smooth road all the way to your door.

Happy Flowers in Pink
24 x 36 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

I never cease to be amazed at the ways that God leads me and speaks to me. (Sometimes it is through the Word, and sometimes it is through a friend, or a billboard, or a poem on the underground wall, as Paul Simon said.) Because of that awareness of God's constant presence and faithfulness, I have joy - and because I have joy, I choose to be happy.

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.

The Beach Changes Everything II
22.5 x 12 inches
acrylic on wood
sealed with clear gloss and ready to hang
SOLD

Lately, I've had some disappointment and discouragement, mostly with people. Then, I ran across this quote:

Dissatisfaction and discouragement are not caused by the absence of things but the absence of vision.
~Anonymous

It helped me look at the big picture. Then I realized the opposite of discourage is courage. It does take courage to persist in the face of disappointment, but I believe it is worth it, in the end. I feel the same way when I go to the beach. The bigness of the ocean keeps everything in perspective, and the salt air helps rub off a layer of my cynicism. Thank God for the beach.
